SPRING BREAK
Every year we take a spring break trip as a club. In the past we've been to Clermont, FL. Wherever we decide to go, you can count on the fact that we will be training for Nationals and causing a raucous.
THE MECTC AND COLLEGIATE NATIONALS
The club is a member of the Mideast Triathlon Conference. We race sprint and olympic triathlons against other schools in the mideast throughout the late summer. The season ends with regionals in Muncie, IN where schools from Illinois, Michigan, and surrounding states compete for double conference points. Points earn our team spots for the draft legal race at USAT Collegiate Nationals. "Nats" is the highlight of the collegiate season, because we get to meet, race, and party with teams from across the country in one rip-roaring weekend.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO COME TO PRACTICE?
Generally yes, but If you'd like to try us out once before you commit, make sure to at least bring a signed waiver.
ARE THERE BENEFITS TO MEMBERSHIP?
Yes! Members get big discounts from our sponsors, and races in our conference are cheaper for collegiate athletes. Some races are refunded entirely and travel costs are frequently low.
DO I HAVE TO BE GOOD SWIMMER?
We have swimmers of all levels that come to our practices. We do require that you pass a brief swim test at the beginning of the year to ensure your personal safety, but if you need help with freestyle or form work our swim captain will be happy to help you.
DO I NEED AÂ ROAD BIKE?
Not immediately. We don't have extra bikes for loan, so if you don't have a bike, you can't ride with us (but you can still come to other practices as long as you'd like). At the beginning of the year, rides are tailored to new members so you can get away with riding your "campus bike" (commuter bike) before you get around to purchasing a road bike.
ARE PRACTICES MANDATORY?
Nope! Participation is as relaxed or competitive as you make it. You don't have to qualify to participate in races.
