This past weekend we had 6 members compete in the Indoor Dayton Triathlon. Though everyone had a lot of fun and did pretty well, we were a bit disappointed that we spent a 60 degree January day inside. Nevertheless, Dayton was a blast! Kevin S, Travis M and Sean H saw their first triathlon ever and Madison S, Candice V and myself had our first of the season to shake out the cobwebs.

Candice ended up placing 2nd for the women after putting up a strong swim and a dominating bike that was the fastest female bike leg for the day. Unfortunately there were no medals or awards for this race, but be sure to congratulate her on her strong performance at Dayton.

Kevin was especially excited about competing in his first triathlon this weekend. Before competing in his first triathlon he was a bit nervous, but said that as soon as he started warming up the butterflies were gone. “All in all it was probably one of the most fun races I’ve done. Going from swimming to biking to running was fun because it changed up the race and kept it from getting dull.”

Be sure to be on the lookout for emails about other race opportunities this spring, not only will it give you a chance to show what you’ve got, it also will make you eligible to race nationals in April, if you so dare. And who knows, you might have some fun!

Aside from the race, we had some great weather over the weekend that people took advantage of. While we were stuck racing indoors, it looks like a lot of club members got outside to mount their bikes or lace up their running shoes and get some training in before they’ll be forced back inside by the return of winter. Training can get rough when you’re stuck inside all winter, so make sure to get outside when you can, but stay safe out there!

That’s all I’ve got for this past weekend. Have a good week and swim/ride/run on!

Peace!

Pat
