Valentine’s Day is coming up, do you have a date? If not, look no further than members of the triathlon club! If you need some convincing, I present to you:
Top Reasons to date a triathlete
1. Triathletes are smart!
Triathletes have quite a number of math and memorization skills. It’s not easy to calculate how many more miles at this pace that you need to run to break your PR, oftentimes done right in the middle of a race!
And triathletes may not be able to help you ace your History exam, but they do have quite the memory. They know plenty of acronyms such as FTP, LSD (no, not the drug), SKIPS, PR, IM, AG, HRM, RPM, DNF, RI, T1, T2, TT, the list goes on and on! They also could probably tell you their personal record for any race distance you can imagine, and more that you didn’t even think existed (does racing for 12+ hours sound fun? It does to some of us!)
2. We have confidence!
Being able to swim, bike, then run is pretty tough! We spend weeks and months training for these races, and when we do well in them we feel confident in ourselves, and confidence can be an attractive quality!
3. Traveling with us!
Haven’t you ever wanted to go to Hawaii, Australia, South Africa, Barcelona, Puerto Rico, or one of many other vacation spots? Well, triathletes do, but probably for different reasons! These are just some of the locations of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 championship races in the next two years! And don’t worry, after our race we’ll be ready to sit around and do nothing for the rest of the trip!
4. We love carbs!
Triathletes are constantly thinking about their upcoming race or their next hard workout they’ve got planned. And every triathlete knows that one of the best ways to prepare to put in a hard effort is to carb load! If you’re a big fan of pizza or Olive Garden’s endless breadsticks, then triathletes would be the perfect dinner date because we will be easy to convince to eat some carb heavy meals for dinner!
5. Triathletes are hard workers!
I’m sure this one doesn’t need much explanation. Triathletes work hard in order to prepare themselves for their upcoming races. You can sometimes find triathletes doing some grueling sets in the pool, pushing through some hard intervals on their bike trainer, or burning rubber on the track. You may even see them do these sports in back to back workouts known as “bricks.” This means that triathletes are hard workers by nature and you can count on them in a relationship to always be willing to push through whatever stands in their way.
